Founder, The Spirit of Independents
Randy Ball
Randy Ball is the founder of The Spirit of Independents, a Chapter 527 political advocacy movement headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A U.S. Naval Academy graduate who finished 29th in his class, Ball was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps following a prior enlistment as a Navy seaman recruit. After his honorable discharge, he earned a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University's School of Divinity in 1988. Ball subsequently served as a Major Crimes detective investigating homicides and sex crimes before returning to military service with a Marine Reserve unit, completing mountain warfare training and airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia during the outbreak of the first Gulf War in 1991.
In 1994, ignoring conventional wisdom about the impossibility of a political novice winning office, Ball launched a grassroots campaign and won election to the Florida House of Representatives, District 29. He has appeared on national television programs including ABC's Primetime Thursday with Diane Sawyer, The O'Reilly Factor, and CNN. Ball founded The Spirit of Independents in June 2026.
